Skid Steer Dust Cab: Enclosed Cab Protection for Dusty Jobs

A skid steer dust cab is not a special product. It is your standard cab closed up tight: a hard front door, side window panels, and a weather seal that actually seals. That enclosure works as a physical barrier between you and the cloud your machine kicks up all day. The fastest way to build one is a polycarbonate door CNC-cut for your exact make and model. The jobs that bury you in dust

Some work is dusty for an hour. These jobs are dusty from the first bucket to the last:

• Grading and dirt work. Dry topsoil and clay turn to powder under the tires. Every pass lifts a cloud, and the wind shoves it straight back through an open doorway.
• Barn and poultry cleanouts. Bedding, feed fines, and dried manure make some of the thickest dust you will ever run in. Inside a building there is no breeze to carry it off. It just hangs there while you work through it.
• Gravel and aggregate. Crushed rock throws fine gray dust every time you dig, dump, or back-drag a driveway. Add a dry week in August and the whole pad smokes.

Feedlots, riding arenas, hay yards, and demolition pads all play the same game. With an open cab, everything airborne ends up on you. It coats the seat, packs into the joysticks and switches, and films over the inside of whatever glass you have left. By the last load you are squinting through haze and you will be wearing the jobsite home.

An enclosed cab is a barrier, plain and simple

Your cab already has a roof, a back panel, and most of two sides. The dust gets in through the big holes: the open front doorway and the open side windows. Close those and the dust has to work a lot harder.

A polycarbonate front door closes the biggest opening, the one that faces the bucket where the dust is made. Side window panels close the flanks for $399, and together they turn a screened cage into a real enclosure. The dust cloud still rises. It just rises outside, on the other side of a clear panel.

Two things worth being straight about. First, no skid steer cab is airtight, and we will not tell you otherwise. A sealed enclosure keeps the inside dramatically cleaner, but a little fine dust will always find a way. Second, this guide is about comfort, visibility, and protecting your machine’s interior. The same door pulls double duty the rest of the year. Polycarbonate gives you impact protection superior to tempered glass when the gravel starts flying, and the enclosure helps regulate cab temperature in summer heat and winter cold. It also gives the machine an immediate resale-value lift, because the next buyer sees a clean, complete cab instead of a dusted-out shell.

Seal quality does half the work

Here is the part most people miss: a door is only as dust-tight as the gap around it. Dust does not need a doorway. It needs daylight. Any place you can see light between the door and the frame is a path for fine dust, and a bouncing machine pumps air through that path all day.

Three seal habits that pay off on dusty ground:

1. Latch it firmly every time. The latch is what compresses the gasket. A door resting closed but not latched seals like a screen door.

3. Keep the seal surface clean. Grit sitting on the gasket keeps it from seating. A quick wipe when you fuel up takes ten seconds.

Dust washes off polycarbonate fast

The best part of a poly door on a dirt job is the end of the day. Cleaning takes minutes if you follow one rule: rinse before you wipe.

• Rinse first. A garden hose or a gentle pressure rinse floats the grit off the surface. This is the step that protects the finish, because wiping dry dust drags it across the panel.
• Wash with mild soap and a soft cloth. Dish soap and water with a microfiber cloth or soft sponge handles caked-on barn dust and clay film.
• Rinse again and let it drip. Done. You are looking through a clear door for tomorrow’s first load.

The supplied hardware is included, with no guesswork about panel fit. Mounting requirements still vary by exact model, and the printed instructions identify the required tools and steps. Every door carries our limited lifetime warranty against door failure or breakage: one free replacement for life for the original owner, under normal conditions. Hardware is covered for 3 months.

We build doors for ASV, Bobcat, CAT, Case, Gehl, John Deere, Kubota, Mustang, Manitou, New Holland, Takeuchi, and Terex machines. Most doors run $1395 to $1795 depending on the brand and series. Your dust-season checklist

Run through this before the dry months or your next barn cleanout:

1. Door installed and latching firm. The latch compresses the seal. If it closes loose, adjust it.
2. Gasket in good shape. Soft, continuous, no cracks or flat spots. Replace it if in doubt.
3. Side windows closed up. Side window panels finish the enclosure. An open side window undoes most of what the door blocks.
4. Wiper ready. Dust plus morning dew makes instant mud film. An electric wiper kit ($229) clears it without you climbing out.
5. Washdown habit set. Rinse first, mild soap, soft cloth. Two minutes at the end of the day.
