Skid Steer Door Hammer Test: Proof, Not Promises

The skid steer door hammer test is simple. Our owner, Leighton Berry, takes a hammer to the same 1/2 inch thick CAT D Series polycarbonate door we ship to customers. On camera. One take. No edits. The door takes the hits and stays in one piece. We made the video because talk is cheap in this business, and a hammer is not. Here is what the test shows, why we refuse to edit it, and what warranty stands behind it.

What Happens in the Hammer Test

Leighton stands in front of a finished CAT D Series door. The same door that gets boxed up and shipped to a farm in Iowa or a job site in Texas. He swings a hammer into the polycarbonate, full force, more than once.

Tempered glass would be on the ground in pieces after the first swing. The Lexan polycarbonate does not shatter. It absorbs the blow and stays in the frame.

That is the whole video. No slow motion to hide anything. No cutaway between the swing and the result. You watch the hammer meet the door and you watch the door win.

He is not tapping it, either. Anyone who has swung a hammer for a living can read body mechanics on video. Watch his shoulders. Those are real swings.

Why We Test the Door We Actually Ship

Plenty of companies run demos on hand-picked samples. A thicker test piece. A fresh sheet clamped in a jig instead of a finished door. A “prototype” that never sees a customer.

We do not do that, and here is why it matters to you.

The door in the video is our standard production CAT D Series door. It is 1/2 inch thick Lexan polycarbonate, CNC-cut to fit CAT D Series machines with no guesswork. It came off the same equipment, in the same shop, built by the same hands as the door that shows up at your gate.

If we tested a ringer, the video would prove nothing about the product you pay for. Testing the real door means the proof travels with every box we ship.

We build these doors ourselves. We were first to market with the Original Shatterproof Polycarbonate (Lexan) Door, and we have been building them long enough to know exactly what the material can take. That is why Leighton does not flinch before he swings.

Why We Do Not Edit the Video

An edited demo video can hide almost anything. A cut between the swing and the close-up can hide a cracked panel. A camera angle change can hide a swapped door. Speed ramps and music can make a light tap look like a heavy blow.

So we took all of that off the table. The hammer test runs as one continuous, unedited take.

That decision costs us nothing if the door performs, and everything if it does not. Which is the point. An unedited video is a bet the company owner makes on his own product, in public, with his own name on it.

You do not have to trust our copywriting. You just have to watch.

Our buyers are farmers, contractors, and owner-operators. Most of them have been burned at least once by a product that looked great in an ad and folded in the field. The unedited test is our answer to that. We would rather show you the proof than write you a promise.

What the Test Proves: Polycarbonate vs Tempered Glass

The hammer test is really a materials lesson. Tempered glass is hard but brittle. When it fails, it fails all at once and it fails in your lap. Polycarbonate is tough and flexible. It absorbs impact instead of shattering.

What the Test Does Not Prove

We will be straight with you, because that is the whole spirit of the video.

The hammer test is not a laboratory certification. It does not mean the door can never be damaged, and we will never use words that pretend otherwise. Any company that tells you their door cannot be hurt is selling you adjectives.

What the test shows is how the material behaves under a hard, direct impact from a hammer swung by a grown man. That is a fair stand-in for the hits a door takes in real work: kicked-up rock, brush strikes, a chain that slips, a branch that snaps back.

For everything beyond that, we do not ask you to gamble. That is what the warranty is for.

The Warranty That Backs the Swing

Every door we sell, including the CAT D Series door in the video, carries a limited lifetime warranty against door failure or breakage: one free replacement for life for the original owner, under normal conditions. Hardware such as hinges, latches, and fasteners carries a 3 month warranty.

Read that again, because it is the other half of the hammer test. The video shows you what the door handles. The warranty covers you if your door ever fails or breaks anyway. One free replacement, for life, for the original owner.

The Door in the Video: What You Get

The CAT D Series door Leighton hammers is a complete, ready-to-install unit, not a bare sheet of plastic. When yours arrives, the box includes:

  • The 1/2 inch Lexan polycarbonate door, CNC-cut for CAT D Series machines
  • Handle with locking latch and keys
  • Hinges
  • Weather seal gasket
  • All nuts, bolts, and washers

The panel is CNC-cut for the exact CAT series, and the supplied hardware and printed instructions are in the box. Mounting varies by exact model: some kits bolt straight on and others require drilling and bolting. CAT doors run $1395 to $1595 depending on series. How to Judge Any Door Demo, Including Ours

Use this checklist on every door video you see, ours included:

  1. Is it one continuous take? Cuts can hide cracks and swapped parts.
  2. Is it the production product? A test slab in a jig proves nothing about a finished door.
  3. Does the company name the person swinging? Ours is the owner, Leighton Berry.
  4. Do they tell you what the test does not prove? Honest sellers volunteer the limits.
  5. Is there a written warranty behind it? A demo without a warranty is just theater.

If a seller fails two or more of those, keep your wallet in your pocket.
