- Sun hours. A machine parked outside year-round in Arizona or Florida takes several times the UV dose of one shedded through the winter in Ohio.
- Storage. A roof, a lean-to, or even the shady side of a shop slows aging in a way you can see years later.
- Cleaning habits. Ammonia glass cleaners, solvents, and dry rags scuff and haze the surface. Haze scatters light, and a hazed panel looks more yellow than it really is.
- Sheet quality. Heavy-duty polycarbonate stands up to weather better than the thin bargain sheet sold at big-box accessory stores.
The pattern we hear from operators is simple. Doors that get basic care stay visually clear for years of daily work. Doors that face the southern sun all day, every day, and get wiped down with whatever rag is in the cab show haze and tint sooner. Same material, different habits.

Here is the comparison that matters more than any tint discussion. Put polycarbonate next to the tempered glass in an OEM door and ask what each one does under real working conditions.

- Wash with mild soap and water. A squirt of mild dish soap in a bucket of warm water is all the chemistry the door needs.
- Use soft microfiber, and keep it clean. A dirty rag is sandpaper. Use fresh cloths and light pressure.

- Park under cover when you can. Sun hours drive UV aging. A roof, a tarp frame, or shade parking cuts the dose every single day.
