Why a Terex door is so hard to find

Terex stopped building these compact machines years ago. When the machines left the lineup, dealer parts support faded with them. Ask an OEM dealer for a new PT 80 door today and you will usually get a long pause, a long lead time, or a flat no.

That leaves a lot of good iron working without a door. The PT 70 and PT 80 are strong, well-liked track loaders. Plenty of them are still clearing brush, pushing snow, and cleaning pens every week. The machine did not stop being useful. The parts channel just dried up.

What the door is made of

Every Terex door we build is heavy-duty polycarbonate, the material most people know by the brand name Lexan. It is the same family of material used for machine guarding and safety glazing, and it offers protection superior to tempered glass.

Glass breaks into pieces when a chain snaps or a limb kicks back. Polycarbonate flexes and takes the hit. Our owner Leighton proves it the direct way. He smashes a hammer into our 1/2 inch thick CAT D door on camera, no edits, and the door holds. That is the same build philosophy behind every door we cut.

What a door does for a working Terex

Three things, and they all show up fast.

Safety. The door is the barrier between your face and whatever the machine kicks up. Brush cutting, fencing, demo work, snow with hidden debris. A shatterproof front door is the cheapest protection you can put between yourself and a bad day.

Comfort. An enclosed cab helps regulate cab temperature. That means real heat in January and less dust and wind the rest of the year. Operators who close up their cab put in longer days without feeling wrung out.

Value. An older Terex with a clean, sealed enclosure shows better and sells better. A door is one of the few upgrades that lifts resale value the day you install it.

The CNC file is built for your model, so the panel itself does not need trimming to fit. The supplied hardware and printed instructions are in the box, and those instructions identify whether the kit bolts straight on or requires drilling and bolting. Installing it yourself

Many owners install our doors themselves after reviewing the instructions for their exact model. Precision cutting handles the panel fit, while mounting varies: some kits use existing factory points and others require drilling and bolting where the instructions direct.

1. Is it cut for your exact model, or is it a “universal” fit you will have to modify?
2. Is it rigid polycarbonate or just flexible plastic sheet?
